From the childhood to adult hood if there are any secrets that weren’t revealed that are the secrets that the stars above us hide every day. It is due to the development of science and astronomy that those secrets are not secrets anymore. However stars and planets have created a fascination inside all of us. In the school curriculum, Astronomy is taught in more of an academic way than a practical way. It is a rare occasion if the students get an opportunity to star gaze and enjoy the night sky as to their heart’s wonder.
We in the IMCD (International Movement for Community Development) have planned a night sky observation camp with intention of giving our enthusiastic students a valuable opportunity to not only to star gaze without disturbance but also to enjoy the night to their heart’s content and learn about the world beyond stars from the knowledgeable.
Path to Wisdom programme of IMCD’s Astronomy team collaborating with Old Nalandian Astronomical Society will conduct the Astro night sky observation camp at Buddhist Girl’s College, main play ground on 30th October 2015. The target audience will consist of 50 students from Buddhist Girl’s College and Subodha Balika Vidyalaya, Dehiwala.
Path to Wisdom programme is an initiative of IMCD which mainly focuses on supporting the school children of Sri Lanka with fewer resources on achieving their competency at various subject matters and enhancing their skill levels.
The object of the programme is achieved by conducting various supportive sessions in schools and children’s home with the object of focusing on examination areas, important subject and career areas. The beneficiaries of the programme gain assistance in passing examinations, career counseling, support in various levels and mainly motivation to make gaining an education a compulsory in their life styles.
