It affords an insight into the working of the physical world that is hidden to the ordinary person and provides a foundation for work in many different areas. In chemistry, we investigate the molecular world – enzymes, atmospheric gases, semiconductors, catalysts, dyes, neurotransmitters, carbohydrates, drugs, pheromones and polymers. Our tools and methods include chemical synthesis, spectroscopy, computational modeling, and diverse suite of instrumentation. The department of Chemistry plays a central and a unique role among the seven departments that make up the Faculty of science.
