It’s been a long day without you, my friend
And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
Breaking record by record on music charts, YouTube and Spotify, this song is a perfect blend of pop music and rap, with a flawless tribute to the life of an actor loved throughout. “See you again” bathes you with diverse emotions striding from the movie “Fast and Furious” itself and the untimely demise of the actor Paul Walker.
The all-adored Fast and Furious was filming its 7th movie when an enormous tragedy hit Hollywood; one of the stars in this movie franchise, Paul Walker died in a car accident on 30th November 2013. The movie swiftly stopped its production as fans all around the world lamented over the death of a talented actor.
After losing one of their main stars during the production, the crew found it really hard to finish the movie as planned afore. However, they moved forward with Computer Generated Images (CGI) of his, over the bodies of his two brothers. In 2015, Furious 7 was released with the song “See you again” which debuted at the end of the movie.
The most emotional part of this all would be *Spoiler Alert* Dom (Vin Diesel) forgetting to say goodbye to Brian (Paul Walker), but Brian somehow catches up to him in his car and they have one final race to bid farewell to each other. Then, we see Brian driving away into the distance (metaphorically, heaven) and Dom staying on his own path of life. This exact scene is included in the music video of “See you again” which fuelled the emotional aspect of the entire song.
Written by Wiz Khalifa, who also takes the song to another level with his rap segment, “See You Again” was vocalized by the emotionally clad vocals of Charlie Puth. The song undoubtedly became an instant hit upon its release and spent 12 weeks on top of the US Billboard Hot 100. The song even made the career of Charlie Puth soar high upon its release.
The music video starts off with soft piano notes being played as shots of the scenic beauty of sunrise are unfolded. As Charlie Puth’s warm-toned voice hits all the perfect notes, the sorrow of Walker’s death rings throughout our body, evoking the deep down grief of a favourite actor, magnified by Paul Walker appearing in the music video. With Khalifa’s rap segments accompanied by Paul Walker and his Fast and Furious family, we deeply feel the connection between those co-stars, intensified by the rising chorus. The emotions start gliding down your cheeks when at the end of the music video, a white screen is shown with the words, “For Paul”.
The crew who produced this song pulled at the heartstrings of many viewers by the use of several emotional techniques and popular culture. If you go visit youtube and type in “See You Again”, you’ll see that the song has reached up to 5 billion views. That’s more than half the human population! Yet, taking all the perfect aspects of the song and the music video into account, it’s no surprise why more than half of the population has enjoyed the video.
Paul Walker will indeed be remembered for generations to come owing to his contribution to the film industry, and I think this song will be a huge asset in the remembrance of an amazing actor. For those who are suffering from the passing away of someone dear, these lyrics can be used to optimistically remember anyone in your life. The song is about accepting the fact that someone dear to you had passed away but keeping the happy memories in mind while highlighting the possibility of seeing them again. It’s moreover a little bit of everything; of harmonical melody, rap, soul, heartening lyrics, etc. There is no doubt that “See You Again” has already left trails of remembrance on history and will continue to do so.
