Insanity, thrill, humour, violence; it has got it all, finally giving the DC fans exactly what they’ve been waiting for. The Suicide Squad directed by James Gunn is undoubtedly one of the most incredible DC movies out there. The way it cleverly switches between various tones to create a truly comprehensive full story, mixing heartfelt moments and thrilling action, reducing the weight of graphic violence with intelligent humour screams out the talent of James Gunn as a director and scriptwriter. It has got that unique flavour distinct to DC movies.
With the main plot of getting together the most dangerous criminals to accomplish a shady mission of the government, the movie hooks the viewers from beginning to end. What the most intriguing and annoying thing at the same time about The Suicide Squad is how the main characters from the team shamelessly gets killed off all the time. The squad starts with seventeen characters and ends with only four !
And let’s talk about Harley Quinnzel. I cannot thank James Gunn enough for how brilliant her character was portrayed. The real Harley we knew from the comic books was insane, fearless and strong. She was not a sexy little object to “spice up” the movie as she was in the 2016 film. Objectifying is when the camera focuses on body parts of a person except showing the whole body once, leaving other parts to the viewer’s imagination. As an example, in Suicide Squad (2016) how the first whole minute of introduction of Harley was just her legs. But in the new movie she just walks in late and steals the spotlight with a lot of personality, as a human being instead of being an eye candy. James Gunn treated her as the queen she is and Margot Robbie, as always did an amazing job giving the character life. I really hope other female superhero movie directors are taking notes from this.
The great cinematography and almost perfect graphics also add into the eminence of the movie. The way all the survived members of the suicide squad goes through individual character building is just amazing. This movie is definitely worth watching so if you haven’t already , this is your sign to start.
