The pandemic that crippled us

We have all come across many sci-fi movies; at least one I’m sure! But whoever thought that they come true? I sure hoped they never did.

“Within our lifetime, we never have experienced something like this. Bomb blasts sure, but never this..” quoting someone who has lived far longer than we have.

Corona is a pandemic and there have been many as such before, but I suppose none were as big as this! (apart from the Black Plague of course)

Getting back to the movies, there is always this hero (almost always some white dude) and he goes through HELL but always, ALWAYS, manages to put an end to the destruction that is about to wipe this place clean!

They always seemed like fantasies and never something to worry about.

No virus, alien, natural disaster was ever going to come get us; at least this can be said for the mighty Americans and Europeans whereas the rest of the world was portrayed to be doomed by Hollywood.

They never show what happens to the rest of the world (except for China and India of course) because we were always portrayed as the people who were too stupid to save ourselves simply because we were third world countries.

However, the tables have turned.

In fact, it is now clear that being a wealthy country or simply the most powerful in the world is not enough. The “white people” couldn’t stop it, heck they couldn’t even control it.

Us as Sri Lankans, should be proud of our forces, our doctors and everyone in the front line of this battle because they have been able to control this disease like no other! Our government has been lenient unlike India and this has resulted in much backlash.

We should be proud of how well we have handled the situation (disregarding the 1% of those that don’t seem to care).

Wrapping up my rant, I know that there has already been enough and more posts saying “Stay Home, Stay Safe” etc etc, so I’ll put it like this.

DON’T BE SELFISH!!

We all know how this virus spreads, so have the humanity to not spread it, if you have made contact with it. Sure you are young and tough so won’t die of it! So don’t save yourself, save another who might not be able to survive this.

Let us fight this monster, Together as one!
